Pete and Anna visiting B in Spring 2012
Pete and Anna went over to Edinburgh yesterday for a Dick Vet open day - Anna would love to study in Edinburgh from September 2013.
We called in to see B three times. First, at 8am when we arrived and second, at 1pm on the way out to the open day. On each of these occasions, she was fast asleep, not even opening her eyes when we talked loudly.
Then we visited for a third time around 5pm when she was having her supper. She was awake this time, and we were able to have a very rational conversation. She doesn't respond all the time, and you need to be patient - she can take up to 10 seconds to reply to a question. But it was heartening that she is very much still there.
I asked questions like "Are you comfortable" and she said "Yes", and I told her what we were up to - she listened carefully and commented sometimes, saying "That's lovely" or "Sound interesting". And when we said that we had to go to get a plane, she said "I don't want you to go".
I haven't included any pics of B here because she does look kind of odd, with her false teeth missing so that her mouth looks askew, and her head is a bit twisted to the left. I think if B was fully compus mentis she wouldn't want us to share pics of her looking like this, so that's why they're not here.
But these are photos taken in her room - you can see that it's bright and cheery, and the bird feeder outside her window was busy with birds pecking away at the food.
Oh, and her appetite is still excellent. I fed her when I arrived and she had a whole plate of shepherds pie plus some cheescake afterwards.
