Hello from Hobart

Winter has arrived. We are not normally here at this time of year and so we are a little surprised at the changes winter brings. The leaves on the trees in the parks are fluttering down and turning the roads to gold. The fairy lights become visible from our windows. Skies are moody. The wind is freezing but the sun shines most of the time and warms the day. Only 2 falls of snow on the mountain so far. They predict a warm winter. Young laser sailors were training in front of our place on Friday at sunrise. They remind me of butterflies.

Here are some pictures from me. We spent a weekend on the Tasman Peninsular recently where blue wrens are still common. Their numbers seem to be in decline else where. They are lovely birds and not at all shy. One male has a flock of little ginger brown wives to look after.
Last week I was surprised and amazed to receive a trophy for being the best performed athlete for the state and certificates for holding 3 state records. One for the pentathlon. So far I've been the only female in my age group to do it. It came with a gold medal. That is like Zander's squash trophy, but the object is really to encourage people to compete. Many or most put in the hard work but have no chance of winning normally. This way they get something for their effort.

Tessa and Fiona are both getting older and bigger. Fiona because she is pregnant again. She turns 30 today, I can hardly believe she can be that old. We went for a Yum Cha lunch yesterday to celebrate. It's also stunning to see photos of Anna and Ella because they are young women now.

All for now. Will let you know how we go in Tahiti. Only 3 weeks to go to the Oceania comp, then I'm stopping running. The old body hurts too much. I admire Z and Pete for their determination. lots of love to everyone. Kate
