From Z & B: Wild weekends for the Auld Weddies

We’re just back from a wonderful weekend in Aberdeen, where Joanna, Sarah and Sarah’s Slovenian nanny Vesna looked after us, while Z played in the first over-70s squash match of the year. Z reached the final of the plate, which sounds good, except it means he got knocked out in the first round, beat somebody else (aged 80) who had also been knocked out,and got beaten in the next final match by somebody good.
The weekend before we went via Bec and co both ways to a reunion in Oxford, to launch a book at my old college, Exeter. 54 old codgers and their wives showed up, including John Moat, our best man. We then went on to a wedding, Rebecca Park (daughter of Joanna) was marrying Quentin Spender (son of the famous poet, Stephen Spender).
We stayed with Chris Graham and helped to trap some of his prolific windfall apples.
B. thrived on meeting old friends and that was lovely.
I also decided to start visiting the Car Auctions to see if the world financial turmoil had made upgrading easier, and it had. Half the cars did not meet their reserve price, and I picked up a red Toyota Corolla 2 years old (so another year of manufacturer’s guarantee) with only 17,000 miles on the clock. My old 8-year old with 70,000 is on Ebay, and I hope I get more than the paltry sum I was offered as a trade in by a dealer. I’ve got a month, as Andrew and Julie are kindly housing the spare car until the old one is sold.
And finally, this week I saw the Chest Professor who was delighted with my chest, and is referring me on to an ENT person, as I have excessive mucus.
That's all for now.......... love Z
